boosting self-worth by balancing the chakras
Our center of self-worth lives primarily in the Solar Plexus Chakra. But there are ways to boost your self-worth within each of the chakras. Try one (or all) of these pick-me-up tips when you’re feeling down:
Root Chakra: Create a sacred space in your home + have yourself a picture-perfect moment. You’ve seen it on Pinterest or Instagram: those little reading nooks with candles, incense, dim lighting, cup of tea, and a vintage record. They always look so magical! Using what you have (pillows, plants, art, snacks, etc), recreate this cozy space somewhere in your home and unwind for a bit. Make it as luxurious as possible and then soak in this DIY sacred space. By doing this, instead of just 30 minutes in front of the tv, your down time will feel a little extra special. And you will, too.
Sacral Chakra: Dance. Put on some music and move your body. Don’t judge how good it looks - actually, let it be wild and untamed. You can move fast or slow. Rhythmic or not. Let go of the mind and find freedom in your body to feel a rush of endorphins. By shifting the narrative from “embarrassing” to “free,” a deeper sense of unconditional self-acceptance starts to creep in.
Solar Plexus Chakra: Tackle something physically challenging. Maybe it’s that yoga pose you’ve been avoiding. Or that HIIT workout you know and don’t love. Run stairs. Jump in the cold ocean. Play a game of pick-up basketball, even though you’re rusty and unofficially retired. By pushing your body outside of its comfort zone, the self-confidence stored in the solar plexus gets a mega-boost.
Heart Chakra: Cook something from scratch. We’ve all heard the expression, “Made with love.” Well, it’s true. When you prepare food with beautiful + fresh ingredients, with intention for every element of the dish, you’re communicating a message of worthiness to those who get to enjoy it. You’re saying, “You’re so special that you don’t just get a cold slice of bread out of a bag. You get warm, buttery, bread that took me hours to make. That’s how special you are.” So make something homemade, just because. Bonus points for serving it with a garnish, too, because you’re absolutely worth it.
Throat Chakra: Speak your truth and do it tactfully. This boosts self-worth because it’s challenging and productive. By apologizing for a mistake you’ve made, setting a boundary, or expressing your vulnerabilities, you reclaim some of your personal power. And when you stand in your power, you stand in your worth.
Third-Eye Chakra: Do something spontaneous. Spontaneity stems from the intuition, rather than a place of over-thinking. And by acting a bit more impulsively, we wind up on paths unknown and step outside of the bubble. Every time we expand our bubble, we expand ourselves. So keep stretching your comfort zone and your self-worth will follow.
Crown Chakra: Try a mindfulness meditation… in intervals. The goal is, while you’re actively meditating, to give it 110%. Focus on the breath and do NOT let the mind wander. Then in the periods of rest, let your mind wander as much as you’d like. You can lay down, stretch, journal, etc - whatever break you need to stay completely focused during the meditation intervals. I like to do 3 minutes on, 3 minutes off, for 30 minutes. You can adjust the cadence + repetitions to fit your level of practice:
1 minute on, 5 minutes off
5 minutes on, 2 minutes offYou get the idea. In addition to the usual connectedness that meditation brings, these intervals are a strengthening exercise for your mind and personal power.
Self-worth is certainly a muscle that gets stronger the more you flex it. So keep these tips on rotation, along with some uplifting music. I even made you a playlist on Spotify to get you started.
