punta banco, costa rica

july 18-23, 2027

for the:
spirit guide

A more-traditional yoga-intensive offers structure to our otherwise free-flowing days. This retreat is designed to recharge more authentically, stripping back the group itinerary so you can get creative with your time. Hovering over the Costa Rica-Panama border is our remote escape, nestled into an 800-acre nature preserve. It’s here where you can build your own adventure, slow down, and witness the earth’s magic. To the naked eye, the jungle looks sleepy. But with a closer look, you’ll see it’s teeming with life: blue morpho butterflies, rainbow eucalyptus, scarlet macaws, toucans, sloths… and even mama whales migrating home with their babies. July is known as el veranillo in Costa Rica - a pocket of sunshine within the rainy season. This retreat is vibrant, uncomplicated, and so nourishing.

retreat intention: flexibility

primary chakras: throat

five (5) nights accommodation

This 800-acre biological preserve is my dream home - low-profile bungalows situated within the overgrown canopy. It overlooks the ocean and you’ll find earth’s medicine around every corner. Owned by a local family, this retreat is a cultural and natural immersion.

slow yoga mornings

We’ll begin each day with a nice, long morning practice. Coming back to tradition, you can expect each flow to incorporate the fundamentals (with a Jax twist):

  • Surya Namaskar A

  • Surya Namaskar B

  • Warrior Series

  • Balancing Series

  • Backbend Series

  • Extended Savasana

  • Meditation

The sound of waves crashing will be our playlist. And we’ll close out each practice with a guided prompt from The Yoga Sutras.

Ashtanga-Inspired Workshop + follow-ups

If you’ve ever practiced Ashtanga Yoga, you’re familiar with its intensity and rigidity. As it stands, Ashtanga is not for everyone. But the consistency and discipline are beautiful. So we’re modifying this super traditional format to make it more suitable your body. Each of you will develop your own “Primary Series,” which you’ll then practice each afternoon on the retreat. And hopefully feel inspired to take your series home with you.

Book club: the Yoga Sutras

Everyone will receive a copy of The Yoga Sutras for this retreat so we can explore some of the themes together. Everything on this retreat comes backs to the essence of yoga, as it was intended to be.

*You can read ahead of time or simply follow along during our discussions.

guided jungle walk

For as many places as I have travelled, nothing compares to the wildlife in southern Costa Rica. The sloths are experts in hiding so we will have a local guide to point out everything this place has to offer. Bring hiking shoes!

Natural river pools and waterfalls

We’ll take a separate adventure to the nearby pools. I don’t think there’s anything I love more than yoga, waterfalls, and a swim in the Pacific ocean to round out the perfect day.

free time for exploring

This retreat was designed for the purists like me: independent, minimalist, and absolutely obsessed with nature. You’ll have extra down-time to do your own thing each day. You can keep it simple with beach time and jungle walks. Or coordinate a boat tour, horseback riding, and surf lessons on-site.

three (3) meals per day

It’s a plato típico at every meal. Most of the ingredients come from the surrounding land but the rest is sourced from nearby markets in Panama. Fresh, traditional, and so so good.

common questions

Q: What time is check in?
A: You can arrive at our property any time on July 18th. Rooms will be ready by 2pm.

Q: Is Costa Rica safe?
A: The safest! As a solo female traveler, this is something I take very seriously, too. Costa Rica is so safe, in fact, they’re one of the few countries without a military. Just follow standard safety protocol while traveling anywhere and you’ll be good!

Q: Which airport do I fly into?
A: Your international flight will land in San Jose. And you’ll take a small domestic flight into Golfito on the day of the retreat. From there we can coordinate taxis for the group.

Q: I’m nervous about getting to the destination alone. Can you help me?
A: Of course! Before the retreat, I will send all of my suggestions for flights and transportation services. I will also share with the group when everyone else lands, in case you want to coordinate travel together. Plus, I’ll be on standby at the destination, awaiting your arrival!
